The market was started in 2007 by some of the current stallholders as a means to reach the local community. Over the years the market has grown and helped a number of local businesses start.
The range of produce available is growing and each month there is a regular number of enquiries from potential new stall holders. This shows the benefit and strength of the market to the community.
The produce available ranges from meat (pork, beef, lamb), fruit and vegetables, plants, bread, cheeses, wines, beers, cakes ready prepared food, chocolate, jams, preserves, crafts including wood, knitting, jewellery, cosmetics, pottery, photography, painting and much more.
The market also runs a cafe so that you can get a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of home-made cake and read the paper before or after filling your shopping basket.
The market was founded on the following principles:-
To make available produce grown or produced within a 30 mile radius of Wallingford, sourcing ingredients, wherever possible from within that area.
To educate and promote the benefits of locally produced food and other products thereby supporting a vibrant and dynamic local economy.
To work with other organisations to help and support the local economy and other key aspects of the area.
