Parish Council amenities

The parish council is responsible for public open spaces and several buildings in the village.

Open Spaces

Parish Council Premises

  • The council office located in the Old School on Station Road (rented)
  • Gardiner Pavilion at the Gardiner Recreation Ground – used by the
        village cricket, football croquet and bowls clubs
  • Sheepcot Pavilion on Sheepcot Field – home of the Goring Robins FC and some Goring United FC games
  • Old Jubilee Fire Station (OJFS) The former home of the council office is due to be sold to the Medical Practise as recommend in the Goring Neighbourhood Plan.

District and County Council

South Oxfordshire District Council

SODC is Goring’s “parent” local authority. It is responsible for social housing, planning, recycling, waste disposal, bus passes and licensing.

All applications for properties in the parish of Goring are referred for consultation to Goring-on-Thames Parish Council.

Oxfordshire County Council Highways

OCC maintains the roads and footpaths in Goring. It is also responsible for parking restrictions (yellow lines).

For “Street” related issues: potholes; flytipping; abandoned cars; fallen trees on highways etc.

Please report on www.fixmystreet.com – it is an easy to use website where you can upload a photo, precise location of the issue and it is emailed to the appropriate team for action.

Street name plates – report damage

This form enables you to report a damaged or dilapidated street name plate to South Oxfordshire District Council. It’s best if you can attach a photograph.

Transport

Train Services

Train services to and from Goring & Streatley station. Services operated by Great Western Railway, half hourly during the day on Mondays to Saturdays, hourly on Sundays.  Some additional peak journeys run through to Oxford and Paddington.

Bus Services

Bus travel – local services to and from Goring are operated by Goring Forward Buses (a Community Interest not-for-profit company).  For details see their website goingforwardbuses.com

Free Parking

Parking is free for one hour in the Wheel Orchard car park, 50 m from the village shops. The entrance is alongside the Catherine Wheel pub in Station Road.

Goring’s place on the Thames path, which “follows England’s best known river for 184 miles (294km) as it meanders from its source in the Cotswolds through several rural counties and on through the bustle of the City of London”.

Chilterns area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB)

Depending on whether you are travelling east or west, the Chilterns AONB begins or ends at Goring gap.
